Naturalisation

Children and adults who immigrated to France and who were born abroad to Non-French parents can apply for French nationality after a certain period of time. The procedure is called “naturalisation”. To be able to apply for it, you must meet some requirements:

  • Being over 18
  • Living in France legally and most of the time (the condition of duration depends on your situation)
  • Speaking French
  • Being integrated professionally
  • Not having been convicted

The application must be handed at the prefecture and the procedure costs 55€. For the list of requested documents or for more information, go to smartexpat.com.

Children born abroad to at least one French parent are born French (nationality by descent). Children born in France to foreign Non-French parents can become French under some conditions.
